With South Africa’s unemployment rate rising to 32.9% in the first quarter of 2025, and youth unemployment reaching 46.1%, there is an urgent need to create meaningful pathways to employment, particularly for young people.

Science is a critical driver of progress and innovation, playing a vital role in the economic and social development of any nation. In South Africa, this importance is particularly pronounced. For the youth, science is the key to unlocking potential, fostering creativity and developing problem-solving skills that can pave the way for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Impact Catalyst has installed solar panels in eight schools across the Northern Cape and Limpopo.

This road safety awareness and education project, implemented in 22 schools across Musina and Blouberg in Limpopo, involved training 22 unemployed youth to conduct road safety education for learners in grades five to ten.
